1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using WasteMate (the "App"), you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provision of this agreement. If you do not agree to abide by these terms, please do not use this App.
2. Description of Service
WasteMate provides information and guidance on waste disposal and recycling practices, tailored to specific councils in New Zealand where possible. Features include a searchable database of items, an AI-powered item scanner, a learning hub, and collection calendars.
3. User Accounts
Certain features of the App, such as unlimited scanning and saving a personal collection schedule, require you to register for an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and password and for restricting access to your device. You agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account.
4. Accuracy of Information
The information provided by WasteMate is for general guidance purposes only. While we strive to provide accurate, up-to-date information, we rely on data from various sources, including local councils and AI models. This information may change, contain errors, or vary by location. Always confirm disposal instructions with your local council for definitive guidance, especially for hazardous materials or items with specific requirements. The App's suggestions do not constitute a legal requirement to dispose of items in a certain way.
5. Use of AI Features
The AI-powered "Scan an Item" feature provides suggestions based on image recognition. This is a probabilistic tool and may not always correctly identify an item or its proper disposal method. It should be used as a starting point, not a final authority.
6. Intellectual Property
The App and its original content (excluding data sourced from third parties), features, and functionality are and will remain the exclusive property of the App creators and its licensors. The App is protected by copyright and other laws of New Zealand and foreign countries.
7. Termination
We may terminate or suspend your account and bar access to the App immediately, without prior notice or liability, under our sole discretion, for any reason whatsoever and without limitation, including but not limited to a breach of the Terms.
8. Limitation of Liability
In no event shall WasteMate, nor its directors, employees, partners, or affiliates, be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages resulting from your use of the App, or from any information or guidance obtained from it. Your use of the App is at your sole risk. The App is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind.
9. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of New Zealand, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
10. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date on this page and, where feasible, through an in-app notification.
