How we verify

Our eco-directory does not rely on anyone's opinion — including ours. A business appears only if it holds a current certification from a recognised independent body. We display which certification it holds and link to the official registry so you can verify it yourself.

Certifications we accept
How we keep it accurate

Listings are sourced directly from each certifier's own public register, not from self-declaration. Each business record shows the date we last verified it.

We re-check the registers periodically and remove businesses whose certification has lapsed. Where a certifier publishes an expiry date (for example Toitū Envirocare), we show it.

WasteMate is independent. Businesses cannot pay to be listed or to change their certification status — the certifying bodies control that.

Certifications change over time. If you spot an out-of-date listing, please let us know, and always confirm current status with the certifying body before relying on it.
